PEOPLE V. THE STATE OF ILLUSION®
In 2010, Quantum Horizons Films, and Austin Vickers will be releasing a full-length documentary film entitled People v. The State of Illusion. The film is an exploration into the scientific world of perception and the link between how and what humans perceive and human behavior. The film will feature 8 of the nation’s leading thinkers in the fields of neuroscience, biochemistry, psychology, quantum physics, sociology, and consciousness theory, and will debut on PBS in the fall.
The film will present the story of a man and woman who are arrested and tried in court on child negligence and endangerment charges for the abuse of a 9 year old girl, their daughter. After being convicted and serving a three-year prison sentence, they were released from prison and now are seeking custody of their daughter from the State on the basis that they have undergone a massive psychological transformation and are now prepared to be capable and responsible parents to their daughter. The State has denied their request, arguing that such transformation is almost impossible and presenting behavioral evidence showing that reinstatement of the child into the home could lead to further abuse and potentially to the death of the child. The couple have filed suit against the State and are seeking a judicial declaration requiring the State to return their child to their home.
This film documents the leading edge scientific evidence and provocative testimony that was presented at trial and asks the audience watching it to be like jurors, and to render their own verdict at the trial’s surprising conclusion.
